19:33 Wednesday 30 June, 2010 The Japanese yen has been back in favor in recent months, as continuing worries over the outlook of the global economy boosted demand for the currency. The yen is hovering at an eight-week high against the dollar, and trading at its strongest level against the euro since 2001. But a look at the performance charts suggest it may be time to pick up the dollar-yen trade, which is showing a very strong support level between 87 and 88 yen. 19:13 Wednesday 30 June, 2010 Euro-zone banks were less eager than expected to tap a European Central Bank three-month loan facility on Wednesday, easing liquidity-related fears about the health of the financial sector. The ECB said it allotted 131.9 billion euros ($161.1 billion) in three-month tenders at a fixed rate of 1% in the refinancing operation, news reports said. The refinancing was closely watched, coming ahead of the expiration Thursday of a €442 billion 12-month refinancing operation. Economists had widely expected banks to roll over around €250 billion in the 12-month loans. Forex Trading News summary provided by Yen Forex Trading.
19:09 Wednesday 30 June, 2010 Asian stocks fell Wednesday, tracking sharp Wall Street declines overnight, amid mounting fears of a double-dip recession in the global economy. Exporters in Japan were hit hard by the yen's recent strength against the euro. But losses in markets were somewhat limited as regional bourses had already dropped heavily on Tuesday --partly in reaction to a downward correction to the Conference Board's China leading economic indicator--and most markets were above their earlier lows. "We're in a vicious cycle where U.S. economic figures are worsening, leading to falls in bond yields and the selling of the dollar," said Investrust Chief Executive Hiroyuki Fukunaga. 11:12 Wednesday 30 June, 2010 Chinese stocks will continue to trend lower in the second half of the year, pressured by tighter lending policies and a gloomy global outlook, according to a leading Hong Kong-based strategist. Andrew Ferris, senior investment strategist for Asia at BNP Paribas, says the sharp sell-off in Shanghai on Tuesday, which saw China stocks skid to a 14-month low, is in line with the overall weakening trend that's been in place since the start of the year. He believes asset prices are likely to remain under pressure until Chinese authorities ease up on their current tightening campaign -- something that won't happen for some time. "They are not going to let go quickly or easily," Ferris said referring to the determination of Chinese authorities to push ahead with recent administrative measures to cool credit growth. "China will continue to have tight monetary policy until the end of year," he added. Forex Trading News summary provided by Yen Forex Trading.
